How about a new rule; if/when the float gets up to 40 you can bet in increments of 10? Then we might become millionaires quicker.
If it falls below 40 again though it's back to 5.

ok how about under £40 = £5 over £40 = £10, over 80 = £20 etc.....
Yup that's what I was thinking.
Bigger bets but you can only lose 25% of your bankroll with one bet.
